Last year we told you about this festival and our adventure there. It is easy to confirm that the Midgardsblot Metal Festival is one of the most unique, authentic and exciting European festivals there is. We first attended last year but now it has become an annual ritual, so this year again Daily Rock will embark on a new conquest of the north and we intend to make you want to follow us…

Viking, pagan, black metal, doom and some dark rituals are all on the program, and served between is a selection of traditional food dishes and beers. You can also discover tattoos and Nordic crafts, all in the heart of the majestic park of Midgard Historical Center in Borre, Norway.

Located one hour from Oslo, this park is renowned for its Viking hall which was authentically reconstructed according to the traditions of the time, where you can listen to some pagan songs and other folk artists while sitting on the skin of a beast around a fire, completely immersed in the magical atmosphere. It is also here that one of the old Viking cemeteries lies; but here there are no grave-stones or romantic gloomy atmospheres of Edgar Allan Poe, but burial mounds where the great ancient warriors and other noble old Vikings are laid to rest.

The atmosphere is magical: stroll between the two concert stages lit by the dim light of a Nordic summer night, then walk a few minutes through the forest to the adjoining beach where you will find magnificent bonfires and re-live a perfect communion between Nordic traditions and gods.

During the day, you have access to the indoor Historical Museum of Midgard located within the park, containing archaeological artifacts and relics from the Viking age, perfect to help you dive deeper into this culture and its atmosphere. Then you only have to spend a few moments in the Viking village in order to let yourself be transported back in time or to one of your favorite TV series. In addition, to remind you that the Vikings were especially great warriors, besides being kings of the festival, reinacted battles and duels are organized in the afternoon between the concerts. Then you will have understood, it is impossible not to succumb. Come and enjoy the best bands today with Ragnar and his friends, but we warn you, you will remain addicted.

But would we have forgotten the bands in all this? Impossible, because the majority of the Scandinavian cream of the crop is invited: Sólstafir, Tyr, Gaals Wyrd, Aura Noir, Unleashed, Moonsorrow, Oranssi Pazuzu, Sahg, Trepaneringsritualen, Heilung, SuperLynx but also some rare gems like nomads Tengger Cavalry or English Winterfylleth. Note that the opening night is more intimate outside the festival site with folk artists Kari Rueslåtten and Folket Bortafor Nordavinden. However, the full program has not yet been fully revealed, which makes us hope for more beautiful surprises to come.

Family-friendly and with all the conveniences easily accessible, this festival is suitable for all fans of the Scandinavian spirit. You can choose between bringing a tent to sleep in the on-site campground by the ocean beach, or renting a room at the nearby hotel, with shuttles included. As for us, we will be there again this year, so do not miss the photos and the full review to come.
